Selected Bibliography of Journal Articles
on Royal and Noble Lineages

The following list of about 275 items includes citations from the genealogical and historical journals most commonly considered authoritative in this field. Though the search was close to exhaustive for those periodicals, only articles in which the theme is stated in the title are included. That is, casual mentions buried in articles on completely different subjects were ignored (even when it was possible to find them).

Only English-language journals were included, simply because I don't have regular access to French, German, or Italian-language periodicals. Two other major journals were excluded for specific reasons: The Genealogical Quarterly [London], because it publishes virtually no "articles" –– only endlessly-continued source materials –– and The New York Genealogical & Biographical Record, because it almost never publishes articles in this field and the time required to search for the very few items it might include was not deemed worth the effort.

The only other items systematically excluded were the brief notes published throughout the 1950s and '60s by Walter Lee Sheppard, Jr., virtually all of which appeared in subsequent editions of Frederick Lewis Weis's Ancestral Roots of Sixty Colonists.

HOWEVER: If you should come across an article which you think ought to have been included in this list, or if you know of a journal (in English) which I have somehow omitted, which regularly publishes articles on royal and noble lineages, I would be very glad to hear about it!

Organization is by the article's major subject.
